MATH  

Chapter 5 Counting and Building Numbers to 120

We are working with the base 10 to build numbers using tens and ones, learning how to use a new math tool, the counting chart, and counting from any number.  I encourage you to work with your child by calling out random numbers up to 120, and ask them to count on or count back.  Also, any homework sent home, please work with your child on so they are getting fluent with these skills.  We will also continue to work on the below items:

We have been working with addition and subtraction strategies and tools for the 1st half of the year.  In this chapter, the students will combine the two and begin to develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between the two.  We continue to build on our base 10 understanding, learn more about related facts and how they can help us solve problems, and work with word problems to build our independent problem solving abilities.

All year will be working on building number sense by counting, developing vocabulary, problem solving and learning strategies to help us solve the problems.  This will help them become stronger problem solvers and deeper thinkers when it comes solving problems.
