Christmas Party!!! December 20th
We had a fun party decorating ice cream cone Christmas trees, eating a yummy snack, opening presents, and just being together. Thanks so much to the parents who were able to come and share in the joy of this holiday season with these precious kiddos!
PJ and movie fun!! December 16th
We gathered with four other 1st grade classes to watch The Polar Express! The kids were so involved in the movie, I don't think many of them moved from their one spot the whole time! They laughed and ooo'ed and ah'ed throughout the whole thing...so much fun to experience through their eyes!
Christmas Around the World
We spent the last two weeks before Christmas break studying several different countries and how they celebrate the holidays. Here are a few pictures of our adventure!
St. Lucia Day celebration for Sweden
These are just a few countries we visited. We had so much fun and learned a lot together about our own traditions and the traditions of families around the world!
We made Christmas trees for Germany because it was the country where this tradition was started
Nativity Scene for Italy and the "bambino"

We made borax crystal snowflake ornaments! Cannot wait for the kids to see them this morning when they get to school! They will be so surprised to see the pipe cleaners crystallized!

Special visitor
We had a visit from Mrs. "Booket". She talked to the kiddos about being bucket fillers vs bucket dippers. She did it in a fun and super memorable way. I know we are going to work hard at school and at home to be super bucket fillers!

Thanksgiving Week Fun!!
We have had an exciting week learning about the first Thanksgiving! We learned how the Native American's helped the Pilgrims when they first arrived on the Mayflower. We learned about a very helpful Indian named Squanto who could speak English and helped them learn how to hunt. We also talked about the significance of corn for both the Pilgrims and Native Americans. It provided them with a small variety in their diet throughout the year.
Today, we made a quilt using construction paper just like the Pilgrims used to do with fabric to make blankets to keep themselves warm. We also read the book Stone Soup and talked about how sharing and working together as a team helps to create great things! I know we all have taken a lot from this week and will have many wonderful memories about what we have learned about the very first Thanksgiving and how blessed we all truly are!! I hope everyone has an amazing Thanksgiving break and makes many wonderful memories with your families!
